On May 24th the Cannes Film Festival will host a charity auction initiated by the Ukrainian State Film Agency to support the Ukrainian film industry. As the event’s media partner, JetSetter.ua reveals the details first-hand.

Lot #1

Original storyboard for the movie ‘Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors’ by Serhii Paradzhanov

Estimate: €5000.

Serhii Paradzhanov’s ‘Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors’ represents the new wave of Ukrainian cinematography of the 20th century. It leads the rating of top-100 best Ukrainian movies that was created by the National Oleksandr Dovzhenko Centre community. At his time Serhii Paradzhanov was praised by his great fellow directors – Federico Fellini, Michelangelo Antonioni and Akira Kurosawa. The Polish director Andrzej Wajda even knelt before Paradzhanov and kissed his hand in gratitude for this masterpiece.

The storyboard was designed by Paradzhanov himself, the movie’s director of photography Yuri Illienko and production designer Georgii Yakutovych. The drawings and the inscriptions were made by hand, though in Russian.

The storyboard for the movie ‘Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors’ (1965) is extremely unique pieces of art, created in one copy. We guarantee that these cannot be purchased anywhere in the whole world.

Rarity Film Poster for the movie ‘The White Bird Marked with Black’

Estimate: €1000.

Film poster for the movie ‘The White Bird Marked with Black’ directed by Yurii Illienko was designed in 1970. The film represents the Ukrainian poetic cinema and is ranked 8th among the top-100 best Ukrainian movies.

Painting ‘Cats’ by Vladyslav Shereshevskyi

Estimate: (to be determined).

Artist Vladyslav Shereshevskyi is the creator of ‘Ze end’ depicting putin in a casket – a painting that instantly became viral on the web. One of the auction’s lots is the artist’s other work – ‘Cats’, painted on March 19th 2022, when the news massively reported the shelling and destruction of Mariupol by Russian troops. The world was struck by the images of children fleeing their homes with only their pets in their hands. The painter is convinced: ‘We are strong because we are kind’.

Painting by Ivan Marchuk ‘Dreams Overflow the Banks’

Estimate: €8 000.

Ivan Marchuk’s abstract work is painted on cardboard with acrylic paint (48×64) in the author’s technique with a holographic effect. The artist shall visit Cannes to personally present the painting. Just a reminder that the Ivan Marchuk contemporary art museum will soon be openned in Ukraine.

Painting ‘Bemused Haystacks’ by Ivan Marchuk

Estimate: €20 000.

The ‘Bemused Haystacks’ landscape was painted on cardboard with acrylic paint (34×45) in 2020. The work is an example of the author’s technique called ‘plyontanism’, which creates the image with kilometres of thin coloured linear strokes applied at certain angles thus producing a hyper-realistic effect.
