ерев’яна статуя Меланії Трамп, встановлена поблизу містечка Севніки у рідній для Меланії Словенії, встигла наробити немало галасу в мережі. Вона була замовлена американським концептуальним художником Бредом Дауні у місцевого різьбяра Максі, а за основу був обраний образ Меланії в блакитному костюмі Ralph Lauren з інавгурації Дональда Трампа в 2017.

Бред обожнює сюрреалістичні міські інсталяції та «спонтанні скульптури», тож присвячена Меланії робота на тлі природи — для нього не дебют, але гучний експіріенс.
Статуя — це частина проекту «Меланія», що включає фільм-дослідження коріння дружини президента США як метафорично, так і буквально.

«Він народився в тому ж році і в тій же лікарні, що і Меланія Трамп, але які ж різні їхні життя», — написав Бред Дауні про майстра в Instagram, а в стрічці різьбяр сам розповів про місто, його історію та своє ставлення до соціальних кроків президента США.

Результат кропіткої роботи здивував не лише місцевих мешканців, але й людей в усьому світі. Користувачі залишали суперечливі коментарі в Instagram на кшталт «це пародія» та «ганьба», а от перша леді США роботу поки що не прокоментувала. Побачити статую, в рідному містечку Меланії можливо до 25 серпня включно.

The current First Lady of the USA was born on April 26, 1970 in Novo mesto in the then Yugoslav republic of Slovenia. The sculpture of the president’s wife is made by a local pipe layer and amateur chainsaw sculptor named Maxi. Both Maxi and Melania were born on the same year in the same hospital, but their lives have taken drastically different directions. For the film, Downey and his team spent several months filming interviews with Maxi along with locations around the town. The result is a personal portrait of Maxi and his thoughts about Slovenia, the USA, Europe, immigration and class division. Through these interviews the film attempts to capture the spirit of Slovenia, which seems to be mirrored in Maxi’s interactions with his family, environment and his feelings about art, God, love, and country.
